In a bid to expedite the pace of Limited-Overs International Cricket matches, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has rolled out the Stop Clock Rule. This regulation, currently on a trial run from December 2023 to April 2024, was implemented for the first time during a T20 International clash between England and West Indies in Barbados, West Indies on December 12, 2023. Under this new directive, the fielding team must initiate bowling the subsequent over within a timeframe of 60 seconds from the conclusion of the previous one.
The enforcement of the Stop Clock Rule comes with a system of warnings and penalties. The fielding team is issued two warnings if they fail to comply with the stipulated time frame. However, if the team violates the rule for the third time in a single innings, a 5-run penalty will be imposed against them.
